The Neurotea was formed in 2009 to improve the care of people with autism and their families as well as children with special needs. Now, through its ‘FormaTEA, inclusive education in Andalucía’ project it is promoting support networks for children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).
Unicaja Foundation joined forces with the Association to support this project, which is celebrating its 10th anniversary. This initiative, ‘FormaTEA,’ launched a network of support for Andalusian pupils aged between three and 16 with a volunteer teacher.
The support of a volunteer in the class will help pupils to learn. The volunteers are able to support the emotional, social, and academic wellbeing of students with ASD. This ensures individual attention, which reduces stress and anxiety.
Personalised tutoring
The project has also a tutoring program for volunteers who can work directly with families and teachers to provide additional support in monitoring students. “FormaTEA” aims to prevent the exclusion from the education system of students with ASD. They added that the assistants’ aim is to offer support or assistance so as to promote an inclusive education and avoid segregating pupils into separate classrooms.
This alliance between the Unicaja Foundation and the Neurotea Association was presented by the head of solidarity and research at the Unicaja Foundation, Ana Cabrera, during a visit to the headquarters of the organisation in Antequera, together with the president of Neurotea, María del Mar Chaparro.
The foundation highlighted that, on the occasion of its tenth anniversary, last year it launched two social and environmental projects, allocating more than two million euros to 39 projects in Andalucía and Ciudad Real that “favour the inclusion of vulnerable people, as well as raising awareness and preserving biodiversity”.
