Juan Antonio Lara announced that Benalmadena’s town hall was searching for a new company to improve the quality of living for elderly and disabled residents.
Currently, 360 people in the municipality receive assistance through the Dependency Law, and 80 others through Community Social Services.
The new contract, valued at more than €5 million, will begin on January 1 and run for two years, with the possibility of a two-year extension. Bids from interested companies must be submitted by October 6.
Mayor Lara has emphasized that the townhall is committed to this service. According to him, it’s vital for residents and their families. He said that the service is a great help to people who struggle to do basic things like meal preparation or personal hygiene due to age or health problems. The program is a great source of employment. It currently employs 110 women, mostly from Benalmadena. The number of users has increased steadily from 360, in 2024. This was supported by 96 care assistants. Today, the service is averaging 440.
“The ultimate aim is to improve patient’s quality of living and promote their independence, allowing them the opportunity to remain as long as possible in their family environment,” stated Councillor Peralta.
In 2024 the service was able to provide over 136 thousand care hours, which were funded by the regional council and Benalmadena Council.
