The annual TodoDanza Festival in Marbella is set to begin, bringing with it a variety of street performances that will surprise you. The city will be lit up for the 16th consecutive year from October 5 to November 8, with 43 dancers and 13 dance companies.

The celebrated cultural event, a regular of Marbella’s arts scene, will feature contemporary dance and flamenco performances across a variety of venues, including the Teatro Ciudad de Marbella and the Museo del Grabado Español Contemporaneo.

TodoDanza’s street dance programme Bailarle a la Paz invites people to dance in unexpected places. The two performances will be held on the 5th of October. This free cycle aims to make dance accessible to all, bringing the art to people and promoting peace in a world ravaged by conflict.

The first production is “Ave de Plata”, by Compañía de Danza Sara Jimenez at 6.30pm in Paseo de la Alameda, and is inspired by a verse from Fernando Pessoa. Ave de Plata explores a mysterious and intimate universe. In a landscape he has created, a hunter kills a bird only to be entrapped by his own actions. Sara Jimenez is a Granada-born dancer who weaves themes like love, life and death into this evocative, contemporary piece.

Next up is “Pies de Gallina” by Ana F. Melero and Luna Sanchez at 7pm in Avenida del Mar. The performance explores the bond between women and celebrates their individuality and unity. Pies de Gallina focuses on the connection between creators, performers and dancers. It uses dance to explore the strength of togetherness.

The Bailarle a la Paz dance cycle will continue for three days at the festival. Students and professional dance companies from Marbella Municipal School of Music and Dance perform a dance tour from the seafront promenade up to the Parque de la Constitucion. All street performances will be free, and neighbours are invited to experience the transformative power dance can have in public spaces.
