Fundacion Olivares & ADIMI celebrate a day of togetherness with La Cala Lions

La Cala Lions has again succeeded in converting the funds raised through their numerous charity events into smiles, joy and happiness for those who most deserve it.

On Saturday, September 13, at Miraflores Tennis Club, the Lions were out in force hosting a daytime party for children and their families of the Fundación Olivares and ADIMI (Asociación para personas con Discapacidad Intelectual de Mijas), with games, a fun day in the pool, a grand barbecue, and an unforgettable day of joy and togetherness.

Celebrate the Day of Joy for Children with Cancer

The Fundación Olivares was established in 2010 by Andrés Olivares, a Malaga resident and dedicated father, in response to the tragic loss of his nine-year-old son, Luis Olivares, who passed away after a 7-year battle with leukaemia. Andrés said, “Before going to heaven, my son asked me to help other children facing similar illnesses,” and so the Foundation was born. The foundation’s motto, “Alma, Magia y Corazón” (Soul, Magic, and Heart), reflects its mission to bring joy, support, and a sense of normality to young patients. “It’s been 18 Years since Luis passed away and 15 Since we founded the Foundation, accompanying cancer-stricken children. It is important to support the families, too. Boys, girls, brothers, sisters, mums, dads, grandparents, even.” The foundation is currently helping 800 families throughout Andalucia. Andrés tells us that their services and fundraising go towards everything from speech therapy to psychological therapy, economic support for families, and even funeral costs when necessary.

Lion Wynson’s dream of a gift of joyous memories

Lion Wynson Beswick said that he had been with the Lions for a very long time. I was once president and I wanted to do something to help cancer-stricken children. I am a grandmother and know how easy it is to buy something for a child, have them play with it then forget about it. I asked, “Can we provide experiences for the children?” “A memory of the day?” “That’s something that they will always remember.”

And for the third year, they did come, and en masse for an unforgettable day of fun together, splashing around together in the pool, playing at the games stalls the Lions had set up, even learning to play the bodhrán, all followed by a huge barbecue laid on at the tennis club.

It is the third year that the La Cala Lions use funds raised through their events to host parties for families of children who have been diagnosed with cancer. Andres Olvares commented: “It is a wonderful event for 34 families to enjoy a lovely day together at Miraflores Tennis Club.”

ADIMI takes part in a party of togetherness

ADIMI from La Cala Hills was also present. We have had a long-standing relationship with the Lions and this day is a great opportunity for all children and their families to come together. We’re happy to have participated for the second time with families who are supported by ADIMI and have a strong connection with other families.

The La Cala Lions have once again shown the generosity of the Costa del Sol Community by donating to a worthy cause. They bring smiles and laughter where they are most needed.
