Valencia, Spain: New heat alerts as temperatures expected to rise even more this weekend

THE current heatwave is set to spike this weekend in the Valencian Community with state forecaster Aemet issuing an orange alert for Friday and warning of a ‘very intense’ Saturday and Sunday.

A yellow alert has been issued for Thursday, between 1pm-9pm, for temperatures exceeding 38C in certain parts of Valencia and Alicante.

Aemet says it hasn’t ruled out the possibility of isolated showers, especially in the inland regions of the north.

Even higher temperatures this weekend

The forecaster has predicted that August will be the hottest month in the region at least since 1950. An orange alert warning was issued for the province of Valencia between 11am-7pm on Friday, with a similar yellow alert in Alicante and Castellon.

Temperatures could again reach 40C on Friday in certain parts of the region.

The heatwave, which began on August 3, is expected to peak on Saturday and on Sunday.

A spokesperson for Aemet said: “Be careful in the next days because we will have a very negative situation due to high temperatures. This can impact on health, particularly the most vulnerable people, as well as forest fires.

According to projections in Europe, the extreme heat may be ending next week. However, it is still unclear when this might occur.
