After losing to England, the Spanish women’s football team has parted ways with its head coach Montse Tome.
The federation announced on Monday that Sonia Bermudez will replace Tome as Tome’s replacement. Iraia Iturregi was also named as the second coach.
The team has reached the European Championship final in just two weeks. This change will take place when Tome’s current contract expires on August 31.
Tome was the Spanish women’s team’s first female coach. Before this, she was an assistant of coach Jorge Vilda.
Tome received a promotion following the 2023 World Cup scandal, during which former federation head, Luis Rubiales, kissed Jenni hermoso, a player in Australia without consent.
Bermudez also played for Barcelona, Atletico Madrid and the Spanish national team. She retired from coaching in 2020.
