Palma´s municipal public company, Emaya, announced it has a new fleet of 16 modern street cleaning vehicles that will enhance its services across the municipality.

The company announced that it had invested more than 2.3 million Euros in 16 new vehicles to modernise its cleaning services.

The new vehicles, which will be operational in September, will allow Emaya a new enhanced water-pressure cleaning program in Palma. This will bolster the cleaning of the entire city with a special focus on the densestly populated areas.

The company purchased 10 heavy duty dual-purpose sweepers as well as one street scrubber. It also acquired three hydro-cleaning vehicles and two electric vans.

In a press release issued on 5 August, the Palma City Council stated that this renovation was a part of a strategic plan for improving and modernising the city’s cleaning services.

New dual-purpose sweepers have a tank capacity of 1,600 litres and can reach speeds up to 40 km/h. They are equipped with high-pressure pumping systems that allow them to combine vacuum and sweeping operations, improving the cleaning performance.

The investment breakdown

The total cost of the investment is 1,937,750 euro.

A street scrubber/dryer, designed specifically for high-traffic zones such as commercial areas and squares, stands out among the new vehicles. This machine is worth 140,080 Euros and can simultaneously scrub with detergent while vacuuming. It increases cleaning efficiency in busy areas.

In addition, the new fleet includes three vans with 250 bar pressure and 15 litres-per-minute pumps, totaling 179.250 euro. There are also two electric vans equipped with pumps of the same type, but at 200 bar. The total cost of the investment was 107,900 Euros.

Palma a Punt

Emaya has made this investment to reinforce its commitment to sustainability, and reduce emissions in the company’s daily operations. In September, the new high-pressure cleaning plan will be implemented. This will lead to a 30% increase of water cleaning operations in order to improve urban hygiene standards.

This reinforcement will be incorporated into the municipal “Palma a punt” program, and will improve overall sanitation through more precise planning based upon population density data per neighbourhood. Prioritising the most densely populated areas will ensure a more effective and equitable coverage across the entire municipality.
