The Estepona City Council is nearing the end of a project that was launched over a decade ago. It aims to create a continuous route for pedestrians along the entire coast. The project, which aims to connect the coast route on foot, has now reached 95 per cent completion, and the remaining sections are close to their conclusion.
The latest progress focuses on the stretch between Guadalmina Bája and Casasola. This project has already obtained the necessary environmental permits. Construction is scheduled to continue in just a few days. This segment will include a 673 metre long, 3 metre wide paved walkway, made from printed concrete. It is designed to provide a safe and accessible route along the coast. This path will be located between the Guadalmina and Atalaya Park Hotels on Casasola Beach. It will facilitate coastal accessibility while conserving local nature.
Mayor José María García Urbano explained the project’s significance as a model of sustainable urban development, commenting on its role in preserving the coastline and boosting tourism. Construction began in 2011 when Mayor Jose Maria Garcia Urbano made a promise to build 17 large wooden crossings over rivers and streams. The corridor was designed to connect previously isolated areas, allowing for leisurely walks, sports, and public enjoyment.
It is hoped that the coastal pathway will become a major tourist attraction. This will eventually connect up with adjacent municipalities and create a coastal walk that will stretch along the south and east coasts until Catalonia.
