Over a dozen injured Palestinian children arrive in Spain for urgent medical care

SPAIN’s Ministry of Health led a mission of humanitarian assistance to transport children with heart conditions out of the conflict zone and into hospitals in the Basque Country. Asturias. Navarre.

Thirteen Palestinians children arrived in Spain Thursday night aboard a Spanish Air Force aircraft, which had flown from the warzone via Jordan. The children were treated by doctors in Amman and stayed there for 24 hours. Médecins Sans Frontières. 

Multiple attacks have been reported on hospitals in conflict zones. They are struggling to operate and provide care for war-related injuries as well as patients with preexisting conditions.

Monica Garcia, Minister of Health, said: “Patients are unable to access basic treatment in Gaza and the humanitarian embargo has caused a situation of famine as well as depletion medical services.”

The Spanish Embassy in Jordan arranged for visas and accommodations for the families. Psychological and legal support, along with translation services are provided by the central Government and NGO Accem.

These children will be joining 31 others brought to Spain in July of last year. The 44 relatives of the children were also rescued, adding to the 58 members of their families who have been evacuated since the missions began. 

In a tweet, the Ministry of Health stated: “Our Country is committed to responding the the health and humanitarian emergency in Palestine. We reaffirm our support for the civilians there and for a just and sustainable peace.”

As soon as they arrived in Spain, the families were taken to various health centers across the country. These included Hospital Universitario de Cruces (University Hospital), Hospital de Donostia (Hospital de Donostia), Hospital Universitario Central de Asturias (University Central Asturias), and Hospital de Navarra.
