Body of Belgian man, 74, is found floating face down in the sea off Spain’s Costa Blanca

A BELGIAN man has died while swimming off a popular beach on the Costa Blanca.

The 74-year-old was pulled from the sea and onto Fossa beach in Calp at around 3pm on Thursday.

The alarm was raised when lifeguards saw him floating face down in the water.

They immediately began trying to revive him on the shore in front of shocked beachgoers.

The swimmer had a history of coronary heart disease and he is believed to have suffered a cardiac arrest while in the sea, reports Informacion.

An ambulance and paramedics arrived quickly to the scene and worked with a defribiliator for more than 50 minutes.

However they were unable to revive him and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

A routine autopsy will be carried out before his cause of death is confirmed.

The Belgian man’s death is the third of its kind on the beaches of Calp this summer.
