West Nile virus risk level is raised from 2 to 4 in this capital city in Spain’s Andalucia: Health authorities advise residents on how to deter mosquitoes

HEALTH authorities in Andalucia have raised the risk level from West Nile virus after discovering mosquitoes carrying the disease in a major city. 

The risk level in the capital city of Huelva has been raised from two to four.

It came after samples of the disease were found less than 1.5km from the urban centre.

Huelva City Council announced on X that it has ramped up ‘prevention and protection’ protocols.

This includes increasing the number of mosquito traps and launching a public awareness campaign.

It also advised residents to use mosquito repellent on their skin and to wear light clothing that covers most of their body.
