JAY Slater’s death was ‘accidental’ with ‘no third party involved’ after the British teenager fell from a height in the Canary Islands, an inquiry has concluded.
Coroner James Adeley said to Preston Coroner’s Court that Jay Dean Slater had died in the Juan Lopez Ravine in a remote part of Tenerife on June 17, 2024.
“While trying to descend the ravine Jay, fell in an area that was difficult. Jay Slater suffered a skull fracture and brain injury from which he could have died immediately.
There was no third-party involvement. Jay Dean Slater was killed by accident.
Last summer, the 19-year old was on an island with his friends when he disappeared.

His disappearance made international headlines, and led to a massive manhunt that lasted 29 days before his body was found in Masca, a remote area of Tenerife.
The teenager from Oswaldtwistle in Lancashire is believed to be the one who went to Ayub Qassim’s Airbnb holiday rental near Masca at dawn on June 17, after having celebrated with friends at the NRG festival in Playa de las Americas.
The apprentice bricklayer tried to return to his flat from there but was soon in trouble after getting off the path on Tenerife’s dangerous and rocky terrain.
The coroner believes that Slater was under the influence drugs when he disappeared.
