Benalmadena Council has partnered up with Ecovidrio, its Urban Solid Waste department (RSU), to offer a glass collection service that goes door-to-door for local businesses, like bars and restaurants, who generate large amounts of glass waste.
Juan Olea said that the service was designed to increase recycling of glass, since businesses produce a large amount of this waste in the municipality. It also reduces the burden on central recycling bins, and allows businesses dispose of glass in a more efficient and safe manner. It is intended to reduce the risk of dogs being injured by broken glass that falls onto the streets around the usual glass collection containers.
The collection will be available from Monday to Friday, in a timetable designed to minimize interruptions to business. Olea thanked the participating businesses and urged them to join in the initiative.
Olea said that everyone’s cooperation is crucial to maintain a clean, sustainable environment. “We are grateful to Ecovidrio, which led this initiative. And we thank the businesses who participated. We hope that more businesses will get involved in order to improve waste collection and management within our municipality.”
