The Centro de Interpretación Turística in Torremolinos is hosting ‘Peter’s Art’, a profoundly moving exhibition by German artist and local resident Peter Eichstetter.
The exhibition has already opened and will continue until August 29. Admission is free from Monday to friday, 10am – 2pm.
Peter Eichstetter is an inspiring artist who has shown incredible resilience. Eichstetter was faced with many challenges after he had a stroke on July 20, 2024, while on holiday in Dominican Republic. These included the loss of his right-side mobility and impaired speech. He discovered that despite being right-handed he had a passion for painting using his left hand. His abstract expressionist paintings are full of vibrant colours, intuitive abstract shapes, and a joyous approach to painting. They reflect his creativity and never-give-up attitude.
Eichstetter has made a remarkable recovery. The stroke temporarily stopped blood flow in a part of his head, causing devastating brain damage. He was able to speak some words the day after the accident and has shown steady progress since then. He still retains his sense of humor, vitality and fluency in 3 languages. The goal of his ongoing rehabilitation is to help him walk and speak as fully as possible. The early months of recovery are crucial, as they show the importance of intensive treatment.
‘Peter’s Art’ is a testament to Eichstetter’s resilience and his profound connection to the language of painting. The exhibition is a celebration of human creativity and its ability to overcome obstacles. The exhibition at the Centro de Interpretación Turística is in Carretera del Tajo, 11, Torremolinos.
