Real Madrid secured a 1‑0 victory over Juventus in today’s FIFA Club World Cup round of 16 encounter, sealing their place in the quarter‑final stage with a resolute performance. Gonzalo Garcia’s header was decisive in propelling his team forward.

Miami was the scene of a tactical battle. The Spanish team, as per usual dressed in white, had early chances, thanks to Jude Bellingham and Federico Valverde. However, Juventus goalkeeper Michele Di Gregorio denied them repeatedly. Moments of brilliance on defence kept La Vecchia Signora competitive.

Madrid’s persistence paid off midway through second half. Trent Alexander‑Arnold delivered a precise cross from the right, headed home emphatically by García. To the surprise of many fans, this was his third goal in the tournament. The entire squad, as well as travelling supporters, celebrated the goal.

Despite a late introduction from Kylian Mbappé, Madrid held firm to protect their lead. The team’s defensive cohesion and tactical discipline were applauded. Xabi Alonso praised their composure when under pressure. Instead of using 4 defenders as is usual, they played with three defenders. Aurelien tchoumeni, who moved from midfield to forward in the second period, undid this display which, according the manager, helped the team better occupy the spaces.

Meanwhile Borussia Dortmund secured their own 2‑1 victory over Monterrey in a parallel fixture, setting up an intriguing quarter‑final clash with Real Madrid. Serhou Guirassy scored a brace to secure the win for Dortmund, though Monterrey pulled one back through Germán Berterame after the break.

The quarter‑final lineup now sees Madrid compete in a heavyweight showdown against Dortmund, while other fixtures promise equally exciting contests. FIFA Club World Cup organisers are predicting a high-level event with drama, top-level competitors and big personalities.

Alonso and his team will need to step up their game against the Bundesliga. As the tournament continues, consistency and confidence will be crucial.

Real Madrid will now focus on the quarter-finals, which are scheduled to take place this Saturday.
