Tallon Griekspoor won the ATP Mallorca Tennis Championships. The tournament, held in the Santa Ponça Country Club in Mallorca, came to an end on Sunday, June 29 and saw a great turnout of talented athletes as well as hyped-up fans ready to see some thrilling games.
In the final, Griekspoor defeated Corentin Moutet of France 7-5 7-6(3). Griekspoor is 28 years old and has won three ATP titles in his career. He is also the oldest champion of the ATP Mallorca Open.
Anyone living in Mallorca can tell you this summer has been an absolute scorcher so far, and Santa Ponça was no exception, especially for the athletes, who needed to spend hours in the sun physically exerting themselves on top of it. Griekspoor said of the scorching heat, “It felt super warm again.” It’s probably because you feel twice as hot when you’re nervous. I suppose the wind was saving us both a bit. It was hot, warm and a very difficult battle. “I’m happy with the final result.”
Griekspoor’s early lead was crucial to his success. It was not an easy match. “I thought I served well in the tiebreak. I played well throughout the match. He made it extremely difficult for me. Griekspoor said: “It is not easy for me to win finals. But I am happy that we won.”
The ATP Mallorca Open is held ahead of Wimbledon and is a major draw to tennis fans to beautiful Santa Ponça.
