Juan de Dios Álvarez, a local police officer from Benahavís, has qualified to represent Spain at the 2025 World Police & Fire Games, held in Birmingham, Alabama.
Native of Jerez de la Frontera and member of the Club Atletismo Chapín Jerez, Álvarez will compete in middle-distance running, cross-country, and relays, demonstrating his dedication to both elite athletics and serving the public in Benahavís.
This will be Álvarez’s third appearance at this prestigious international event. Seven medals have been won by Alvarez in his impressive career: four in Canada in 2023, three in Rotterdam (Netherlands) in 2022. Since 2005, Álvarez has served as a Benahavís police officer, following a stint as a Guardia Civil member in the municipality from 2003 to 2004. Alvarez’s commitment to safety in the community is in line with his passion for athletics, making him a star among emergency service athletes around the world.
The 2025 World Police & Fire Games will feature eleven days of high-level competition, bringing together thousands of first responders, police and firefighters from around the world. We now know that the Costa del Sol is home to one of the world’s best.
