Val Williams from Simply Thriving, and Nathan Dean with 100 friends at El Jinete.

The warmth of the late June sun was matched only by the warmth of community at the Simply Thriving lunch to promote the Late Summer Soirée gala fundraiser for AFA.
100 guests gathered at El Jinete in Mijas to celebrate the charity gala scheduled for September 16th. Val Williams, president of the Simply Thriving Group, stated that “I had expected only around 40.” Today, we have 100 people here and another 50 or so who asked to come. But look. It’s just too small!
At the 2024 Simply Thriving Late Summer Soirée event, the Costa del Sol community showed what it does best. Nathan Dean, Emma Luisa Brian Piccolo, Melissa Carver and other artists donated their talents and time, while generous members of Costa del Sol reached their goal. €6,000 was raised for AFA through ticket sales, a grand raffle, hugely benevolent donations, and an auction all for AFA Fuengirola – Mijas, the Alzheimers and dementia association.
Nathan Dean is the organizer of this year’s Simply Thriving, an event that aims to raise the bar. In order to do so, they gathered at Chef Roque’s El Jinete, to motivate people to prepare. September’s Late Summer Soirée 2025 at Mirafores Golf is open to all. Tickets cost €45pp, €10 of which goes directly to AFA. Val Williams who organizes the Simply Thriving groups meetings is overwhelmed with the response. “We’re pushing for more than €6,000 this year.”
