Spain’s war on diesel has taken a shock new turn — and this time, even the country’s Latest Diesel drivers are being pulled into the chaos.
Clean diesel? Not clean enough
For years, buyers were told that modern diesel engines — the so-called Euro 6 diesels — were the eco-friendly choice. These cars, which were fitted with advanced emission systems, filters and Spain’s C-label green, were promoted as an eco-friendly alternative.

The crackdown has intensified
Madrid, Getafe and Huelva are already restricting C-labelled vehicles diesels — affecting thousands of drivers who purchased their cars less than ten years ago.
