German midfielder Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen has become the most expensive player in British soccer history after Liverpool signed the deal for his transfer worth £116 million (approximately 135.4 million euros or $156 million).
The German footballer’s deal has exceeded the previous most expensive player transfer agreement in the Premier League, Ecuadorian midfielder Moisés Caicedo, for whom Chelsea placed a price tag of £115 million (about 134.2 million euros or $146 million)
First words posted Wirtz was thanked for his support by the new team of footballers on X, after the announcement. Wirtz thanked the team for their support and said he was looking forward to working with them. “I am so happy to be here and I apologize for the long delay.”
The German footballer, who made his Leverkusen debut on 18th May 2020, just two weeks after he turned 17, has several records in his pocket, including being the German League’s youngest goal scorer when he scored against Bayer Munich.
One of the most talented playmakers in the World
According to FootyStatsWirtz played 225 matches in his professional career, scoring 67 goals, and collecting 69 assists.
“Wirtz may be the best attacking playmaker in the world today,” Tor-Kristian Karlsen, a former scout told ESPN. “It is no surprise that he has been courted the most powerful clubs in football.” He is likely to be the most important attacking footballer in the next decade.
CNN has heaped praise on Wirtz. wrote. He was described as “the complete package” by former German National Team manager Hansi Flick, while Patrick Helmes, a former Leverkusen forward and current Barcelona player called him the “best midfielder on the planet”.
“Florian is a more direct player (than Musiala), a strategic playmaker,” said former Germany coach Joachim Löw. “He always has his head high, is looking for his team-mates, and has the vision necessary to make that final decisive pass,” said former Germany coach Joachim Low.
Midfielder with talent
At Liverpool, Wirtz will be part of a talented midfield featuring Alexis Mac Allister – a World Cup winner with Argentina – Dominik Szoboszlai and Ryan Gravenberch, as well as linking up with former Leverkusen teammate Jeremie Frimpong, who the Reds also signed last month, CNN added.
Wirtz, who joins Slot after the prolific goal-scorer Mohamed Salah signed a new contract with Liverpool FC towards the end of last year, gives Slot a variety of options for attacking next season.
