Estepona wants a police station built after waiting five years

On Thursday, June 19th, the Estepona council plenary unanimously demanded that the central government complete the construction of the new police station national and hire more national police officers as a result of the increasing population and tourist numbers.

Estepona Council formally handed over a land plot to the central government in order to build a National Police station five years ago, but there has still been no construction. It is a plot of land given over officially to the government of Pedro Sánchez in 2020, and measures 4,159 square metres, located on Calle Latvia in the neighbourhood of Las Mesas.

Council members claim that the General Directorate of Police agreed to accept this space. However, five years on, not one brick has been laid. The Plenary of the Estepona council unanimously agreed that, in light of these circumstances, it was necessary to insist on a concrete schedule from the government for the construction of a police station.

The Council is attempting, to the best of their abilities, to compensate for the lack national police by using local police. But the role crossover still leaves the city vulnerable and undersupplied in terms of policing.
