Malaga is a success story that has received international recognition

Malaga has become a hub for culture and technology. It was once a transit point where tourists were rushing from Marbella to Torremolinos. The Economist.

Malaga, once overshadowed and dominated by the Costa del Sol’s beach towns is now a world-renowned city. In the past decade, its economy has been a leader in the Andalusia area and is seen as an example for other Spanish cities.

In 2003, the city began to revive with the opening the Picasso Museum. This attracted visitors and boosted confidence. Malaga was transformed by the Centre Pompidou as well as Museo Carmen Thyssen. But the Andalusia technology park has really changed everything. It was once a modest business venture but is now a thriving microelectronics hub with 28,000 employees and giants like Google, Vodafone and other startups. 

The success of the Costa del Sol is attributed by Mayor Francisco de la Torre to the vocational training and the charm that the Costa del Sol has attracted from around the world. The GDP of the Malaga region has grown exponentially from €32.5 billion 10 years ago to €41.9 billion today.
