On June 16, 2025, Mayor Ángeles Muñoz launched the new Marbella stadium project at the Palacio de Congresos de Marbella, marking a historic moment for the city. The event was a symbolic laying of a first brick after the planned demolition the old Antonio Lorenzo Cuevas Stadium.

The concession includes clearing the existing stadium site and building a 21st-century facility that will be the epicenter of sport on the Costa del Sol. The project, with an initial investment of €114 million, is Marbella’s largest of its kind and aims to drive economic and social growth over a 75-year business development plan.

Mayor Muñoz declared, “Today is a historic day for our city. We can proudly declare that today is a historic day for our city. It marks the before and after of four groups’ interests: the interests and a great Marbella CF Foundation, the interests and a city like Marbella, to have top-notch sporting facilities, the interests and the future development of our great City. She stressed that, once she became convinced that the existing stadium was insufficient for a large city like Marbella it led to this ambitious undertaking.

Muñoz thanked Esteban Granero, the former Real Madrid player who ended his career at Marbella and now represents the club, for his passion and role in securing the council’s investment. She said that the stadium would be more than just a stadium for football, saying, “It’ll be much more than that.” It will be an employment generator, employing 2,000 people with sports, leisure, restaurants, and shopping. It will also serve as a place of meeting for families, young people, and all those who promote a healthy lifestyle. We will turn it into the sporting center for the entire Costa del Sol, and we will attract the most prestigious events from around the world.” She placed great emphasis on the new site being a meeting place for all Marbellís.

By the 2026/27 football season, the stadium is scheduled to be finished. It will include seating for up to 10,000 spectators and a pitch made of natural grass. It will also feature facilities meeting both national and global standards. This stadium will feature 1,200 underground parking spots, commercial areas and solar panels for sustainability. The project is designed to turn Marbella into an exciting hub of sports, leisure and community engagement.
