Google’s latest update makes it much easier to manage PDF files. Gemini’s AI will be able summarise the PDF files in Google Drive as soon as they are opened. The update is available in over 20 different languages, and it began rolling out to users on June 12. However, some users may still have to wait a few days before they see the change.

Double-clicking the PDF will open a summary card that summarizes the document in just a few sentences. Gemini can also create clickable actions based on content in the PDF, for example “draft a proposal sample” or “list interviews questions based this resume”. These were two of the examples Google gave when they announced their new feature. The update will be  available to Google Workspace users on Business Standard, Enterprise Standard and Plus, and also users with the Gemini Education plan, or anyone with the old AI Pro or Ultra add-ons.

Google had only ever integrated AI in PDFs via a quick summation. This will be the first time that Google does this. Gemini is also available in other Google products, such as Gmail, Sheets and Docs. Google Drive will allow users to opt-out of AI summaries, if they do not want to use them.

Google Forms will also be updated. Gemini is able to summarize answers to short or lengthy questions and highlight key conclusions and points from the document. Gemini will reference the title of the form, the description, as well as the questions and responses. The option appears in the tab Responses. Google hinted at adding the feature to non-English speakers as well, even though it is only currently available in English.

Google Forms’ “help me feature” will allow users to create new forms using documents and descriptions. Gemini can automatically generate a form from a product catalog that a business imports into the system. Customers will then be able to choose their favorite product. This feature will also be available only in English and will begin rolling out to Workspace customers on July 7th.
