Sotogrande’s celebration of World Oceans Day was marked by an impressive display of community involvement and environmental care. More than 200 volunteers removed 500 kgs of waste from the coastline and seabed.
Organised with the help of San Roque Town Hall by Sotogrande S.A. Puerto Sotogrande Fundacion Navega Royal Maritime Club of Sotogrande The event was organized by a variety of groups and individuals, from local associations and families to diving professionals and businesses.
Scuba Course Spain was in charge of the underwater cleanup, with the support of Typical Alternative who provided a platform that allowed debris to be collected safely and securely within the marina. Teams on land also worked along the shoreline to collect plastic, cans and nets that harm marine life.
The Royal Maritime Club transformed into a hub of eco activities throughout the entire day. Children participated in outdoor painting sessions and art workshops. Visitors learned about marine conservation and enjoyed nautical activities thanks to groups such as We Whale, Sotojet, and Alavela Yachting.
The event was concluded by reading a manifesto that supports ocean protection. A heartfelt “thank you” to everyone involved.
Sotogrande has a long-standing commitment to sustainability. The area continues its promotion of low-density developments, renewable energy sources, reused treated water and environmental education. Puerto Sotogrande has received several green certifications that confirm its leadership in responsible maritime tourism along the Costa del Sol.
