Dramatic arrival of INFOCA team to put out Mijas fire

The dramatic arrival of INFOCA’s team to put out the Mijas Fire

A fire broke out at midday on Thursday, June 12, next to the urbanisation Cerros del Águila in Mijas and spread quickly due to the amount of dry scrubland.

The local police were not aware of the cause of the fire but speculated it may have been sunlight shining through an old bottle. Around 12 or 13 Guardia Civil cars and fire crews were dispatched to the site. Before long, a team from Andalucía’s INFOCA specialists made a spectacular entry by helicopter and set about beating the flames back and strategically containing the burning area.

The area that caught fire was a development site with streets and street lights already in place. Construction appears to have largely stopped, so large amounts of trash have accumulated, possibly contributing to the fire.

This incident is a warning to all of us that we need to be extra vigilant as we move into the driest time of the year.
