Sirens
Drama and dark comedy in equal parts. Sirens The five-episode series is an intense mix of Greek mythology and cult energy with sibling dysfunction. It also features designer labels. Meghann Fahy is Devon, the eldest child who juggles a casual affair and a caring job, all while trying desperately to save her younger sibling (Milly Acock) from manipulative boss Julianne Moore. The mythological undercurrent of the show adds to its lavishness. It portrays trauma, control, and the blurred lines between protection, and control. This is a great choice for fans of fast-paced, psychological dramas that are full of sharp wit and gorgeous visuals. Available on Netflix.
Nine Perfect Strangers: Season Two
This time, the psychedelic retreat takes place in the Bavarian Alps. Masha, played by Nicole Kidman, returns, but she is less visible. Meanwhile, a group of cartoonish guests (Christine Baranski and Henry Golding) explore their traumas through clunky monologues. It is dark, yet satirical. And the winter setting is chic. Somehow though, it doesn’t quite hit as hard as season one… Available on Amazon Prime and Hulu.
