DBX S can be ordered now. Credit: Aston Martin
Aston Martin announced a new flagship DBX, the DBX S. Powered with an engine that uses technology from the upcoming Valhalla supercar the DBX S offers even more power while reducing weight.
DBX S continues a long tradition of Aston Martin’s utilisation of the ‘S’ suffix to denote a special, high-performance version of an existing model; the first being Vanquish S which made its public debut at the Paris Motor Show in 2004. DBX S shows that Aston Martin is still producing lighter versions with greater power and performance. It continues a long lineage of high-performance Aston Martin models.
The new DBX S engine is a 4.0-Litre Twin Turbo V8 engine, an updated version. The power of the new DBX S is increased by 20PS, to 727PS, using turbo technology that was taken directly from Valhalla’s upcoming supercar. This results in a 0-100kph speed of only 3.3 seconds, and the top-speed remains at 310kph/193mph.
As with its DBX707 stablemate, DBX S distributes its power between the front and rear wheels in variable proportion – including an ability to send 50 per cent of its torque to the front and up to 100 per cent of its torque to the rear wheels alone – through a 9-speed ‘wet clutch’ transmission, which removes the need for a conventional torque converter, delivering extreme performance on launch from standstill.
From the front of the new DBX S, it has a black vaned grille. New side sills feature distinctive air splitters with an upwards-facing angle that helps channel and direct airflow along each side of the vehicle. The new flagship DBX is most noticeable at the back, where quad exhausts are now vertically stacked in both matt and gloss finishes.
The interior has a bespoke ‘S’ theme; the most notable feature being the distinctive herringbone design which comes as standard on the seating. The seating, headlinings, centre consoles, lower instrument panels, and upper trim are finished with lightweight Alcantara. The seat bolsters, however, are made of semi-aniline leather.
‘S’ has long had an association with Aston Martin, and DBX S proves that lighter variants with more power and performance are still very much part of the marque’s story, and are set to last into the foreseeable future. DBX S are available for order and deliveries will be made towards the end the year.
