After weeks of poor phone service in the historical centre, Casares Town Hall has announced that it will file a lawsuit against the phone companies. Constant phone and internet failures have severely affected local businesses and residents.
The town hall decided to act urgently after not receiving a satisfactory response from telecom providers. They have hired a telecom specialist to do preliminary work, despite the fact that it is not their problem. The town council is also looking at paying for the complete upgrade of the local telephone network to ensure that the service will be stable and reliable.
Casares will also launch a complete audit of the entire telecom infrastructure in the municipality. It is hoped that other weak spots will be identified and similar problems avoided in the future.
The town hall contacted the Consumer Office of the Junta de Andalucia as well to inform them of the situation and request an investigation. The phone companies are now being investigated for a collective lawsuit, since they have not met the basic service standards that are required by law.
It is not acceptable for people to be constantly cut off from phone and internet services in the 21st Century. They claim that the town hall is doing everything it can to defend the rights and interests of local residents, businesses, freelancers who rely on essential services.
Work on the historic centre has already begun.
