Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United will go head-to-head in the 2025 UEFA Europa League final tonight, Wednesday, May 21, at San Mamés Stadium in Bilbao.

The Europa League final is a lifeline for both teams who have experienced disappointing domestic seasons.

Both clubs are trying to salvage their Premier League seasons. Tottenham and Man United have finished the 2024–25 season in 17th and 16th place – their worst non-relegated finishes since the league’s inception.

The Supercomputer predicts the winners of the Europa League Final tonight

Opta’s computer simulated the final 100,000 times in advance, and predicted a razor-thin result:

  • Tottenham win 50.3 percent of simulations
  • Manchester United win by 49.7%

‘The supercomputer has brought into the projection that Wednesday’s all-English final will be a tight and cagey affair with little to separate the two teams,’ reports Sports Illustrated.

The separate forecast for AceOddsThe citation of the Daily Mail, predicted a 3–2 Tottenham win, which would secure the club’s first trophy since 2008.

Spurs will take confidence from the fact that they have dominated United in this season. Spurs won all of their head-tohead matches. That includes a 3–0 win at Old Trafford, when Erik ten Hag was still in charge.

Current Spurs manager Ange Postecoglou, who guided the team past Eintracht Frankfurt and Bodø/Glimt in the knockout rounds, has previously expressed his second-season ambitions. He said in September that he always wins a championship in his second season. Sports Illustrated.)

Both sides are concerned about injuries

  • James Maddison, Lucas Bergvall and the rest of this season’s team
  • Son Heung-min is doubtful because of an ankle injury
  • Radu Dragusin has been out since February due to an ACL rupture

Manchester United’s injured players

  • Leny Yoro, a teenage French centre-back who was injured during United’s recent defeat to West Ham in Old Trafford, has been unable to walk.

Still, Man United boss Rúben Amorim was cautiously optimistic:

He had this problem at the start of the season. We hope it’s not too serious… maybe it’s not a big deal,” Amorim told Sky SportsCitation: Daily Mail.

Bruno Fernandes is a star despite Man United’s unpredictable season. The Portuguese playmaker continues to be the team’s greatest hope in controlling the match.

What is at stake in Bilbao this evening

Beyond lifting the Europa League trophy, the winner will secure automatic entry into the 2025–26 Champions League, offering a financial and reputational boost that neither club can afford to pass up.

Will Opta supercomputer’s prediction be right?
