Spain’s stranglehold on British Tourism is ‘under attack’ by its Mediterranean rival

As Spain’s grip on UK tourism starts to wane, BRITS are heading to other Mediterranean destinations.

A new competitor is emerging on the Spanish market to compete with British tourists. 

In 2024, Turkey will reach a historical milestone when 62 millions tourists flood the country.

With 64 million annual arrivals, it is just behind Italy as the fifth-most popular tourist destination. 

Spain is still the top country in the rankings with over 100 million tourists visiting this year. However, Turkey has been gaining popularity in key markets such as Germany and Britain. 

This could be in part due to the rising price of a holiday in Spain, with the average cost of a hotel room clocking in at €158 per night compared to €128 in Turkey, according to real estate business, Costar. 

There’s no doubt that the landscape of tourists in Turkey has changed, as the number of Germans who visited Turkey in the last 3 years has increased by two-thirds. 

In Spain, France has displaced Germany as the second-largest tourist market.
