Astrid Summer, a Mexican artist, has opened her first solo show in Spain in Estepona. The exhibition features her emotional and bold work. Titled Urdimbres desafiantes, the show runs from May 16 to July 25 at STOA Galería de Arte in the Port of Estepona.

The large canvases are painted and hung like banners to create a dramatic visual effect. Sommer’s work is expressive and spontaneous with layers of color, brushstrokes, and drips. She describes her art as a revolt against silence. Her work uses colour without sketches or plans to explore passion and emotions.

Her technique, horror vacui (meaning “every inch is filled with energy and meaning”), is a way to fill every square inch of space. Sommer believes that each painting is an intuitive act, driven by feeling and movement. The result of this is a stunning mix of raw emotions and artistic freedom.

The show is curated by Conchi Álvarez and Roberto Ballesteros, who also wrote the accompanying text. Sommer invites you to experience her creative vision and step inside her world.

Entrance is free. The gallery can be found on the 1st floor of the Puertosol, right next to Supercor. You can access it via a side ramp. Opening hours Monday to Friday are 11am to 2pm and 5pm-6:30pm. Weekend visits are only available with prior appointment. For more information call 951-318-426.
