Later this year, the Miami Dolphins take on the Washington Commanders in the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium in Madrid.
On November 16, Spain’s first NFL regular-season match will be played at Real Madrid’s iconic stadium. Instead of goalposts and penalty box, it will have uprights and an endzone.
This landmark event is part of the NFL International Series. Seven games will be played in six countries as part of the efforts to expand the sport of American Football worldwide: Brazil, Ireland. United Kingdom, Germany and Spain.
Josh Harris, the owner of Washington Commanders, released a statement saying: “We feel honoured to represent Washington, D.C., on the world stage, in the NFL’s first regular season match in Spain.

“Playing the iconic Bernabeu Stadium provides a unique opportunity to reach out to new fans, and share the excitement of Commanders Football in one the most prestigious sporting cities around the globe.
“Football brings people together. We’re thrilled to be a part of the historic moment that brings NFL to Madrid, Europe and beyond.”
Over 75,000 Spaniards can watch the NFL’s best stars at work, like the Dolphins’ explosive wide receiver Tyreek hill, or the Commands’ ultra-consistent Terry McLaurin.
The Commanders had a 12-5 NFL record in 2024. They advanced to the NFC Championship Game, where they lost to the eventual Super Bowl champions, Philadelphia Eagles.
The Dolphins from the Hard Rock Stadium, Florida, finished their season with an 8-9 mark, and missed the playoffs for first time in the current head coach Mike McDaniel’s tenure.
