Casares officially opened the entries for its XII Festival Nuevo Cine Andaluz, which will take place from September 27 through October 4, 2025. This is the oldest festival devoted to Andalusian films and it continues to grow every year.

Online platforms allow photographers and filmmakers to share their work. Competitions are held in categories such as fiction and documentary feature film, short films and photography. The well-known Express Short Film Contest is also included. All selected entries compete for the Pajarraco, the festival’s official award, and several cash prizes.

The short films that were shot in Casares on a single weekend will receive the most awards. The event for this year will be held on the 20th and 21st of September. The general category has a prize pool of 3,000 euro and a second place of 1,000 euro, while amateurs can win 500 or 250 euros.

This is a local event and the promotional campaign this year involved local groups recreating iconic film scenes. Twelve of these photos were taken by local photographer María Linares and used to create a printed calendar to raise funds for the Botika Association.

Casares will once again welcome the best of Andalusian films and showcase the talent which defines this region.
