The Darkness into Light Walk for mental health charity AFESOL will take place Saturday, May 10 before sunrise opposite Biddy Mulligans at La Cala de Mijas.
There are three official walks on that day: one each in La Cala de Mijas and Estepona.
Biddys is the meeting place for everyone who wants to do the Mijas Walk. It opens at 6am. The walk will start at Biddys and continue to El Oceano, then along the boardwalk back towards La Cala where they can enjoy the sunrise. Michael’ O’Halloran began the first Darkness Into Light Walk in Estepona, and this year marks the fifth anniversary of the event in La Cala. Biddy’s says that they feel lucky to have the opportunity to raise awareness for this wonderful cause, and to support two charities who help people with mental health problems and their families.
The event’s impact is due to the symbolism that begins in darkness and ends in light. This brings the community together for those who have suffered a suicide loss, have witnessed the effects of self harm, or have had suicidal thoughts. ‘This event enables us to deliver a potent message of hope to all.’
You can register on darknessintolight.ie, and select the location for your walk. Biddys requests that walkers wear tee shirts from the previous year. Some may be available, but not all. You will need to arrive early to get them.
Biddy Mulligans is looking forward to seeing everyone and welcoming new faces on the morning. After the morning, everyone is invited to breakfast at La Cala de Mijas’ famous Irish Pub. Biddy’s, located on Blvd. de la Cala, La Cala de Mijas.
