Marbella’s local police just launched a pilot project for a period of three months, equipping officers in the area with ten cameras that can transmit live footage to their control and command centre.
Mayor Ángeles Muñoz announced the plan, showing off the council’s commitment to improving officer safety and operational efficiency through the latest technology. The eight-hour battery-life bodycams add a new level of security to Marbella’s existing network.
Muñoz said that annual budget allocations will ensure police are equipped with the most state-of-the-art resources. The system was successfully tested during the Easter week. Video footage added to the central control system provided vital evidence as well as comprehensive oversight. The mayor claimed that the project will enhance the security of the city.
The local police technological unit developed the system to give officers the maximum mobility, and the ability to see in real time, during incidents such as checkpoints, accidents or patrols of high-density areas. The technology is also being extended to civil protection and firefighters in order to improve coordination and efficiency of emergency response. The technology is a big step forward in the modernisation of Marbella’s operations for public safety.
