A FRENCH national was arrested after an attack with a knife inside the Great Mosque in Valencia.

Police Local officers were able to subdue the attacker after a Mosque official received a serious head injury.

Paramedics sedated a man taken to the Clinical Hospital in the city.

The assailant, 22, told police and health staff that ‘Allah had ordered him to kill people’.

According to the Las Provincias He shouted at the newspaper: “The Devil is a creation by Allah, Armageddon for Spain!”

Details of the Great Mosque attack were only revealed on Monday.

The Frenchman stabbed the 59-year-old Syrian in the forehead using a knife after entering the building at Calle del Palancia.

He needed several stitches in a medical centre.

A witness saw the youngster in an agitated condition who shouted insults to one of mosque leaders without any apparent reason.

The official who was the next victim of the stabbing tried to calm him and warned that he would be kicked out if continued to act aggressively.

Two police officers attempted to calm the aggressor down, but reinforcements were on their way.

He yelled in Arabic, and threatened to hurt more people. Officers rushed at him in order to control the situation.

The man reportedly offered ‘strong resistance’ to being handcuffed with a judicial source telling Las Provincias that police ‘used minimum necessary force’ to arrest him to stop further attacks.

The leaders of the Great Mosque thanked police officers for their quick intervention.

The attacker was born in Montpellier, but his address is unknown.

He carried a notebook with comments written by hand about Allah. Also, a rock that weighed a kilogram and a book of stories about Muslim Prophets.
