The Marbella City Council has announced new measures to regulate and control feeding of stray cat.

QR codes will identify people who have been given permission to feed the cats. They will also be used to monitor colonies to ensure that the animals are well cared-for. Those who want to be registered cat feeders will receive information from the city, as well as safe places to feed their animals.

This measure was presented by the city councillor for Health, Alejandro González. The councillor explained this initiative as part of the strategy to control the cat population and to control where feeding areas are located to avoid private properties or public parks.

The Spanish Animal Protection Law allows stray cats to be fed, as long they are done at specified points, and after applying for the authorisation to work with cat colonies. It will be possible from 23rd April on the web site. marbella.es.

For those who meet the administrative requirements, they will receive an authorization. They will also be given a QR Code and an official ID so that the Marbella Police can access the documentation.
