The organizers of the tournament that starts on 25 May announced on Thursday a tribute to Nadal will be held at the end the night session of the first day.
Tournament director, Amelie Mauresmo, promised that it would be a ceremony ‘full of surprises’.
“We wanted it to be special and exceptional. I didn’t want much information to keep it a secret for everyone,” said she.
The event is looking to the future but does not forget those that have made it resonate as much as Rafa Nadal.
Gilles Moretton (President of the French Tennis Federation, FFT), said that a recent meeting with the former player was held to discuss the details of the tribute. He would not go into further detail.
He revealed Nadal’s involvement in the promotion of the French Open on May 12 in an event.
Rafa would be the ideal person to discuss our tournament. Amelie Mauresmo said: “He accepted, and it’s something unique that a Grand Slam champion of such stature is linked with our tournament.”
Nadal was announced as a future ambassador for the event. However, the exact details have not yet been finalised.
