Mijas hires the lowest-income workers for social jobs

As part of the municipal program for socio-labor integration, Mijas Council’s Basic Income Department is beginning to hire 140 people in April.

In the first round of 2025 applications, 699 were received, and 496 were approved. The recruitment is done in two phases. 70 workers were hired on April 10th, and another 70 employees on April 21st.

Juan Carlos Cuevas noted that these hirings are in line with the start to Mijas’ high season. ‘With these contracts, we’re backing beach services ahead of Easter, alongside tasks like brush clearing, garden maintenance, cleaning municipal buildings, and street improvements,’ he explained.

Cuevas emphasized the fact that Fomento y Empleo’s headquarters is now offering mandatory Occupational Safety and Prevention training as part of today’s onboarding. ‘It’s crucial that all workers begin with proper preparation to ensure their safety and effective performance,’ he said.

He also praised the social impact that this program has, by providing job opportunities for those who are most in need. ‘Basic Income plays a vital role as a gateway to employment for many residents. We will continue to promote the tool as a way of integrating socio-labor, providing direct benefits for the entire municipality’, concluded he. Mijas has shown its commitment to community and workforce services by hiring 140 new employees.
