The Mein Schiff Relax was christened at Levante Maritime’s southern pier on Wednesday night, 9 April, in Malaga.
Giuliana Rizzo, the Spa & Sport manager for the cruise line, served as godmother, officially launching the ship with the traditional smashing of a champagne bottle against its hull, a symbolic gesture meant to ensure a long and prosperous journey.
Two sister ships attended the ceremony, Mein Schiff 7 and Mein Schiff 5, making it a family affair. On the same day, Mein Schiff 5 docked in the Levante port and Mein Schiff 7 landed at the northern berth to mark its maiden visit to Malaga. The main event was set in motion by a reception aboard Mein Schiff 7. At 3.30pm the Mein Schiff Relax entered the harbor entrance to the sound of resonant, prolonged horn blasts.
Robbie Williams, the pop legend, performed a spectacular, one-off concert in honor of this event. Guests on board the three ships had front-row privileges to the show, and 2,000 others were at the sell-out concert.
The Mein Schiff Relax was moored at the southern dock, preparing for its blessing. It is currently on a 9-day cruise that begins and ends in Palma de Mallorca. Final touches were made to the grand celebration that welcomed passengers and crew of all three TUI vessels present in Malaga.
