The La Cala Lions Diabetic Support Group recently achieved an enormous success with its Diabetes Awareness Campaign.
At the Mijas Health Day, the stall offered the public free glucose tests. A total of 101 people took the opportunity to be tested. Organised by the Department of Health, the Health Day event in the Torreón Square in La Cala de Mijas, was a huge success.
In just three hours the Diabetic Support Group‘s two nurses Fay and Mercy, tested 101 members of the public for their glucose levels, aiming to raise awareness about diabetes, its symptoms and the importance of early detection.
There were many other interesting stalls including the Red Cross and Adimi as well as our own Lions Alzheimer Support Group. Sandie showed everyone how to play the Muff Fiddlers. These tiny knitted muffs have bells, a ring, buttons, balls and corks. So that dementia sufferers can fiddle around with them for comfort and calm.
Congratulations to the Mijas Town Hall on organizing such a fun and educational day. The Lions of La Cala de Mijas are dedicated to making a positive contribution in the area and helping communities. Call 607 879450 to learn more about their work and ways you can be involved.
