With the opening of the Immersive Exhibit Centre of Tauromachy at the iconic Plaza de Toros de La Malagueta in Malaga, the city’s cultural and tourism appeal has been enhanced.
The venue is a unique mix of history, technology, and art to bring the cultural importance of bullfighting before an international audience.
CEIT, which covers 46 square meters, features six permanent exhibit halls, tracing the evolution of tauromachy from its ancient roots in Malaga as a sign of power, to its modern forms during the 18th-19th centuries. This includes Malaga’s own Escuela de Ronda family and Romero. Visitors can explore its influence on 20th-century art with original lithographs by Rafael Alberti and admire iconic ‘traje de luces’ designs worn by legends like Enrique Ponce and Curro Romero. A restored poster of the Carriquiri collection and a tribute on how bullfighting has influenced fashion, cinema and literature.
Virtual reality tours and bullfighting simulations offer an immersive experience into the culture. The centre pays homage to the bullfighting’s ecological importance and includes museum-like spaces, such as La Malagueta’s infirmary with a surgical simulator.
CEIT is open for everyone. Even if you dislike bullfighting, it allows a deeper insight into the rich history and cultural heritage of this polemic tradition.
