Unemployment in Torremolinos fell significantly in March, dropping by 542 people compared to March 2024, a 10.1 per cent decrease, according to the Junta de Andalucía’s Argos Observatory.
Last month, there were 4,825 residents without jobs in the town. This is down from 5,367 unemployed people a year earlier. It’s also the lowest number since 2008 when there were 3,997 jobless. Monthly, unemployment fell from February’s 4,872.
1 320 new contracts were signed in March, an increase of 25 compared to February. Men and women both got 622 of these jobs. The hospitality industry topped the list with 661 contracts. Commerce was second with 154. The 25–44 age group gained the most, claiming 625 contracts.
Social Security data confirms Torremolinos’ economic boom. According to the Ministry of Inclusion, Social Security, and Migration, as of February, the last month for which data is available, 22,544 residents had been registered as employees, an increase of 2,4% (542 workers) compared to February 2024.
Self-employed workers increased by 119, to 5,726. In February, 1,148 new workers were added compared to the previous month, representing a strong 5.3% increase.
Torremolinos’ economy is strengthening, largely due to the hospitality industry and an increasing workforce. This gives the town a positive outlook as it enters the Easter holiday season.
