Residents along the Costa del Sol will witness a partial eclipse of the sun from their balconies and beaches on March 30, 2025.
The National Astronomical Observatory of Spain captured the celestial event. An image was shared on social media showing a part of the Sun being obscured by the Moon.
National Institute experts stressed that safe viewing methods are important. They recommend a projector image projected in the shade. This can be done using a flat, paper-covered mirror, with a small hole, less than 1cm in diameter. They advised viewers not to look directly at the Sun reflected in the mirror and instead focus on the projection.
Eclipse glasses that are CE-certified (opacity index of 5 or greater) and adhere to the instructions can be a good alternative, as long as they are not damaged. The institute recommends that you remain seated when wearing the glasses.
Malaga will only see a partial solar eclipse on August 12, 2026. Although it will be visible from other parts of Spain, the next total eclipse will occur in 2026. National Geographic Institute said the 2026 total eclipse will be the first to be visible from the Peninsula in over a century.
Malaga will have another year to wait, until the 2nd of August 2027, before we can see a solar eclipse total. This eclipse will cover the Strait of Gibraltar from west to eastern. It will cover the autonomous cities of Ceuta and Melilla, almost the entire province of Cádiz and part of the province of Malaga, as well as the southernmost areas of Granada and Almería.
