Works begin on Avenida del Carmen, Estepona.

As of March 24, Estepona’s drivers will experience temporary traffic changes while the Council undertakes a major upgrade to Avenida del Carmen.
In order to improve pedestrian safety and infrastructure, the project will shut down a 350-metre stretch of road between Calle San Roque roundabout and Lidl supermarket. Pedestrians will still be able to access the area.
The upgrade includes a new drainage system of 700 metres to replace the outdated The project will also include improvements to the drinking network and pedestrian pavement. The €1.5 million plan, funded by the Diputación de Málaga, is set to be finished by late October 2025, in time for the busy Christmas season.
Avenida del Carmen is used by over 20,000 cars daily in the summer peak months. These upgrades are essential to meet the growing needs of the town. During construction, traffic will be diverted via signposted detours along Avenida Andalucía, San Lorenzo, and Juan Carlos I.
The Council has scheduled the work around peak tourist times to minimize disruption. Businesses will still be open along the avenue, but drivers are advised to use alternate routes. For updates, contact the Town Hall at 952 809 000 or visit ayuntamiento.estepona.es.
