Costa News Spain: Soroptimists Celebrate International Women’s Day

Soroptimists International celebrates International Women’s Day in Las Lagunas de Mijas at the Gala de la Mujer. The day reminds many women of how far women have come and how much more they still need to do.

Soroptimist International Costa del Sol members took the opportunity of the storms to celebrate differently. They attended the event instead of marching and were able to see several women receive awards for their role as role models.

The Soroptimists are encouraged by the growing support of men for women’s issues in recent years. Men are becoming more vocal about their support for equality and gender. ‘When we uplift women, we uplift all of humanity. Working together, men and woman can create a prosperous, just and equitable world.

The European Federation of Soroptimist International has prepared an online campaign entitled “Why it matters? “Soroptimists driving equality” – Drawing attention to critical issues that still remain. SI Costa del Sol has joined the campaign in order to bring awareness of gender disparities which still limit women’s leadership, economic independence, and career potential.

Education is at the core of Soroptimists’ mission. It is vital for women to be empowered and barriers to be broken down. SI Costa del Sol has put their money on the line, and is organizing a Soroptimist leadership academy for women in Mijas this November.

Soroptimists invite everyone to join this movement and support women’s rights. They encourage you to like and share social media posts, follow SI Costa del Sol and use your voice to help future generations.
