The Costa del Sol is flooded after days of heavy rain. This wet weather will continue through the weekend.

The rains are expected to continue, but two dams in Guadalmina (Guadaiza) have already released water.

Photos shared on Instagram Marbellasequeja The river Benahavis races down the mountains towards San Pedro de Alcantara.

The muddy water has almost submerged a bridge in Marbella (pictured left).

Dams open their gates to try and control the flow of rivers or streams. If forecasters predict that water levels will increase during heavy rainfall, they can open the gates in a controlled fashion to manage the flow.

Marbella Town Hall said on X that the Potril lane is closed due to water discharge from the Guadaiza dam and Guadalmina Dam. Cleaning tasks are also being performed to prevent any accidents.

The Costa del Sol is still under a yellow rain alert until 8pm tonight.

Aemet state that 15mm of rainfall could occur in just one hour.

The majority of Cadiz provinces, Granada Provinces and Almeria Provinces are also yellow-alert.
