Marbella is set for a major facelift, with a €20 million urban regeneration plan aimed at transforming public spaces and promoting social inclusion. Local government has given green light to the ambitious project, backed up by European funding. This will pave the way for a bid that could secure up to 85% through the EDIL programme (Estrategia de Desarrollo Integrado Local).

A new vision for Marbella

Speaking about the initiative, municipal spokesperson Félix Romero outlined the core mission of the Convive Marbella 2030 Plan, which aims at creating sports facilities and hubs for social interaction that promote community cohesion, especially in the most needy areas. The strategy is in line with the Agenda Urbana 2030’s broader principles and ensures no neighbourhood gets left behind.

Marbella’s council will benefit from the EU funding the lion’s share of investment. Step in Fund the remaining 15%. There are two main categories of projects: Plan Reactiva, which commands a €4.5 million budget, and Plan Red San Pedro Alcántara, the larger initiative at €15.4 million.

Projects that are ready to be shovel-ready for a rapid transformation

Romero said that some of these projects are already well developed, and have undergone consultation with the community, or, in other cases, started contracting using municipal funds. Marbella will reallocate the funds if it receives European grants to other projects. Residents can benefit from a number of benefits.

Marbella has a strong record of EU funding

With a proven success rate in managing EU-backed projects, Marbella has already delivered €19 million worth of initiatives with an impressive 95% execution rate. Marbella’s track record of successful fund management positions the city well to secure the next round of European investment.

We’ve proven we can manage these funds efficiently. And that Romero claimed that Marbella had a significant advantage over other bidders.

Marbella’s ambitious plan could transform the city in the future, making it more connected, inclusive and innovative than ever.
