The Ayuntamiento Huercal-Overa, the Town Council of Huercal-Overa, has completed reconstruction of Parque El Saltador. This park was destroyed by vandalism back in June 2024.
The park was set on fire intentionally to destroy the rubber flooring and play equipment. It was inaugurated for the first time in late 2023. The park was visited by Mayor Domingo Fernandez and several councillors of the ruling team after its refurbishment.
Reopening the play park
Mayor Fernandez expressed her satisfaction over the reopening of the park and regretted the vandalism, which had led to its destruction. “It’s a great pleasure to see children in this area enjoying this space again, which was created for them and their family to enjoy.” He also highlighted the financial impact of the incident, noting that over €48,000 was invested in the park’s initial construction, and a similar amount was required for its reconstruction. He added that the money would have been better spent on other projects in Huercal-Overa had we not experienced this vandalism. Residents were visibly proud of their restoration.
The Townhall, despite the setbacks, reaffirmed their commitment to residents by rebuilding the park and adding new high-quality elements. The park is now more than 670 sqm and includes picnic tables, benches, rubber-floored play equipment, and solar powered street lights.
